Q2 Review: Our Milestones, Challenges and Learnings

First our knees shook, then we slipped, got food poisoning and in the end, we finished it with some spicy cough. As teachers and leaders, it is our responsibility to guide and support, not to tear down. We share with you the good, the bad and the ugly. We want to collaborate with you! Read below..

MILESTONES:

  • We chose QLD Open as our Professional debut. We must be honest.. our knees were shaking walking out onto the floor for the first round - we felt like juveniles. It all seemed so new, of course familiar, but somehow just not the same. We ended the competition by confidently wining in all dances. The warm welcome from the QLD dance community set a positive tone for the season ahead.

  • Shortly after, we proudly claimed the title of Professional Victorian State Champions. You always hear those stories of people falling in their solo dances.. well, we had a close one as you may have seen on our socials. We recovered, had a good laugh and kept on going. We won in all dances, and we are grateful to be supported by our state.

  • Our journey then took us to Blackpool. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend and represent Australia. Just shy of breaking into the Top 49 in the Open and narrowly missing the Top 24 in Rising Star. It was great to see so many Australians attend the festival this year.

  • Setting clear goals is key to growth. In January we set a goal to reach 3000 Instagram followers by the end of the year. We reached this goal just after Victorian Championships in May, and we are continuing to grow each week. These still may be small numbers for some, but we are choosing to celebrate these small wins along the way. We put in a lot of effort and chip away each day, so we want to thank you all again for tuning in!

CHALLENGES:

  • Our number one challenge remains our time. Or the lack of it. Some days we find that there is so much to do that nothing gets done and other days we feel like we have moved mountains. It’s the 30/30/30 rule - you will have 30% great days, 30% okay days and 30% bad days. A mentor of ours recently told us when we were being hard on ourselves: “There will always be bad with the good, but as long as the bad doesn’t outweigh the good, you are on the right path”.

  • The storage on our phones and time it takes to edit vs putting out content. Editing content takes a lot of time and effort. This is a huge shoutout to the creative videographers and photographers – we truly appreciate you and what you do. We want to share more content with our audience, but we have found recently that we are running out of storage on our phones, so if you have any tips on how to store content, please let us know!

LEARNINGS:

  • Language wields immense power in our interactions with students. Embracing positivity and encouragement pushes our students further and gives them the necessary confidence to try to reach for new heights. It has been a recent highlight to hear: “I never thought I could do that, thank you”. As teachers and leaders, it is our responsibility to guide and support, not to tear down.

  • We want to collaborate with You! Collaboration improves problem solving, increases productivity, creates balance and provides a creative outlet. Not only do we learn from these experiences, but we all grow together. We are continuously inspired to continue to do our part and have ideas we want to share. Feel free to reach out if you would like to get creative with us!
